Collagen in diabetic pancreas may speed up type 2 diabetes damage

Indian researchers found that excess collagen in the diabetic pancreas acts as a scaffold, accelerating the toxic clumping of amylin and damaging insulin-producing beta cells. This breakthrough suggests that targeting the interaction between amylin and the extracellular matrix could lead to new, more effective treatments for type 2 diabetes and its progression.
