Govt limits number of SIM cards people can own, new rules to be effective from Monday

The Telecommunications Department has directed telecom operators to decline new connections to subscribers who already have nine mobile SIMs in their name. It has directed telecom firms to use subscriber photographs on the government’s Digital Intelligence Platform to prevent individuals from obtaining SIM cards illegally. The move, which will be effective from Monday, aims to curb digital fraud.
